[Column] Indigo dyeing experience at the "Kurume Ai Project" aiming for integrated production from indigo grass

Dyeing is one of the important aspects in the process of making Kurume Kasuri fabric.
Among them, "indigo dyeing fabric" using natural dye indigo is decreasing due to various factors.
In addition, the dye often relies on Tokushima's indigo, and the cultivation of local Chikugo-grown indigo grass has long ceased.
If we were to make indigo dyeing fabric, we would like to stick to local products, so we conducted joint research with a local university and produced Kurume Ai, an indigo plant from Chikugo, although it is still very small.

Okamoto Shoten will continue to promote the Kurume Ai Project so that it can become a new local specialty!
