■We are pleased to announce "Kurume Kasuri: A Heritage for the Future" as part of the 786th Design Gallery 1953 Special Exhibition, sponsored by the Japan Design Committee. Kurume Kasuri is a cotton kimono created around the beginning of the 19th century based on the idea of a 12-year-old girl named Den Inoue. By dyeing both the warp and weft together and weaving them with regularity, we are able to create a warp and weft pattern. Kurume Kasuri, which is based on indigo dyeing on cotton, has become popular as everyday wear for many people, but recently, people have become increasingly detached from kimonos, and Kurume Kasuri is required to be in line with the current trends. .
In the design gallery, we will introduce Kurume Kasuri techniques and production tools that have been handed down over the years, as well as the activities of the Igeta no Kai, which commercializes Kurume Kasuri in modern times.

Okamoto store comment
Although there is a part of the exhibition period where merchandise is sold, it is more of an art exhibition that focuses on non-merchandising exhibits.
The contents include an exhibition of tools used in Kurume Kasuri, an exhibition of old Kurume Kasuri, an exhibition of representative Kasuri by Igeta no Kai members, and a movie of the process, allowing you to learn more about Kurume Kasuri. Although there are some parts that are difficult to understand, mysterious, and maniacal, I hope that this will also tickle the intellectual curiosity of visitors, and that as many people as possible will become interested in Kurume Kasuri. Also, since this was our first attempt at this exhibition, we received a lot of cooperation from the members of Igeta no Kai. This will be a long-term event lasting 8 weeks, so if you're in the area, please come and see it. Thank you for your support.
