This is Red Fuji created by Tatsuo Ogawauchi, a holder of the country's Important Intangible Cultural Property techniques.
Tatsuo Kouchigawa, a dyeing and weaving artist with over 50 years of experience, creates works that focus on traditional natural indigo dyeing, and is particularly skilled at creating small, modern patterns.
The piece in question is a representation of "Red Fuji," one of the images by Katsushika Hokusai, from the famous "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" collection of famous ukiyo-e prints, in Kurume kasuri.
This is a very impressive piece that beautifully captures the delicate texture of the clouds, which is something that can only be achieved through hand weaving, and the snow-capped red of Mt. Fuji, making it a rare find these days.
We hope you will enjoy displaying this piece as a work of art in your room or entrance.
*A frame will also be included, but please consider it as a bonus only.
The frames may have scratches and peeling paint due to aging, so if you are concerned about this, please replace the frame before viewing the painting.
